ABOUT MY ART
I am influenced by vintage design and art, and sometimes add a side of sass to my hand lettering projects. I specialize in botanical-based surface pattern designs and spot illustrations, as well as still life oil paintings. I adore the home decor market, particularly wall art and wallpaper. In paint my medium of choice is oil paints, and for illustration and surface pattern design I create using a mix of digital software such as Procreate and analog media such as watercolour, gouache, and dip ink pens. Botanicals connect our world, and I’m very interested in themes of sustainability, native vs invasive species, and how the natural world is all intertwined with itself. In still life painting, I’m fascinated how everyday objects and items we normally just walk past and not notice can become the basis of very moody dramatic pieces of art. Some of my favourite design eras are the Arts & Crafts Movement, Art Nouveau, the Dutch masters, and the Victorian era. I am also a lover of the Hollywood Regency Glam interior design aesthetic, which I explain as “Versailles meets IKEA meets drag queens.”
