Commission an Original Oil Painting

Collectors often commission paintings to honour a meaningful species, place, or ecosystem.

From my studio in Victoria, British Columbia, I create original oil paintings inspired by wildlife, coastal environments, and botanical subjects. My work blends vintage artistic influences with bold colour and quiet, attentive observation of nature.

Because each painting is created slowly and with care, I accept only a limited number of commissions each year.

Conservation Impact

Wildlife and marine commissions contribute directly to ocean conservation in British Columbia. A minimum of 15% of profits from marine and wildlife paintings supports education and conservation organizations including Pacific Wild and the Whale Interpretive Centre.

Commission Process

  1. Inquiry

    • Reach out to dana@peacockandfig.com and let me know these details:
      • Name

      • Email

      • Subject of painting

      • Preferred size

      • Timeline (if you know it or have one)

      • Any additional notes you’d like to add, or images you’d like to send with ideas of what you are drawn to

  2. Proposal

    • I will promptly get back to you via email with any other questions I have, and general pricing options. Pricing is dependent on the size of the piece, and sometimes the complexity of the subject (such as multiple animals in a painting). I will also let you know where you are in the queue for commissions, and what the expected timeline for delivery might be.
    • If we come to an agreement, before asking for a deposit I will create a general mockup of the image that I will paint and get your written approval.
  3. Deposit

    • Upon approval of the design, 50% of the price will be payable as a deposit. This is not refundable once work begins.
  4. Painting begins

    • I will update you when I start painting your work, and if desired I will send you 1-2 images of the work in progress.
  5. Completion and shipping

    • Upon completion, the other 50% of the price will be payable, plus shipping costs, and I will ship your painting to you and send you tracking information.

Typical timeline: 4–8 weeks from the start of painting. If commissioning an acrylic painting (which dries much faster) or any other design work, this timeline can vary depending on the project.
